Signs You Need HVAC Repair

To ensure your HVAC system remains functional and efficient, it’s important to recognize and catch minor repair issues before they turn into major problems and costly replacements.

Here are some common signs that your HVAC may be ready for professional repair services:

  • Insufficient Heating or Cooling: If certain areas of your home are too hot or too cold, or if your system struggles to maintain set temperatures, it may signal a malfunction that needs professional attention.
  • Poor Airflow: Weak airflow from vents can suggest issues with the air filters, ductwork obstructions, or blower motors. It’s important to address these problems quickly to avoid inefficiency and discomfort in your home.
  • Strange Noises: Sounds like banging, squealing, or grinding are not normal and usually indicate that some components are loose or failing. These noises should not be ignored as they can lead to more serious damage if left unchecked.
  • Frequent Cycling: If your HVAC system turns on and off more frequently than normal, known as short cycling, it may be due to thermostat problems, incorrect sizing, or other internal issues. This can increase wear and tear and energy consumption.
  • High Energy Bills: An unexplained increase in your energy bills can indicate that your HVAC system is becoming less efficient, possibly due to issues like air leaks or a failing compressor.
  • Moisture or Leak Issues: Any signs of moisture around your HVAC unit, such as water pooling or leaks, are red flags. These could be due to problems like a clogged condensate drain or refrigerant leaks and can lead to more serious issues like mold growth.
  • Unpleasant Odors: Musty smells might suggest mold or mildew buildup, while a burning smell could indicate serious electrical issues. These odors should be addressed promptly to avoid potential health risks and system damage.
  • Thermostat Problems: If your thermostat is giving inaccurate readings or not responding correctly, it could be improperly calibrated or malfunctioning, affecting the HVAC’s performance.
  • Visible Wear and Tear: Any noticeable signs of damage, corrosion, or wear on your HVAC system or its components might indicate that repairs or replacements are necessary to prevent further deterioration.

Recognizing and addressing these signs early through professional services can help maintain your system’s efficiency, prolong its life, and ensure your home remains comfortable and safe.

If you’re experiencing any of these issues, it’s advisable to consult with an expert like Absolute Comfort to diagnose and resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

What is An HVAC System?

An HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) system is essential for regulating the temperature and air quality in residential and commercial buildings. It works to keep interiors comfortable regardless of the weather outside, providing heating, cooling, and continually circulating air.

There are several types of HVAC systems, each suited to different needs and construction:

  1. Split Heating and Cooling Systems: These are very common and consist of separate heating and cooling units. Typically, the heating unit is installed indoors (like in a basement or closet), and the cooling unit is placed outside. They are connected by ductwork that distributes air throughout the home.
  2. Hybrid Split Systems: Hybrid split systems are similar to the common split system but with a significant energy-efficiency boost. They use both gas and electric heating, switching between the two depending on which is most efficient. This can significantly reduce energy costs, especially in milder climates.
  3. Packaged Heating and Cooling Systems: These systems combine all components in a single outdoor unit, often installed on rooftops or near the foundation. They are particularly useful for smaller spaces or buildings without much room for indoor HVAC components.
  4. Ductless Mini-Split Systems: Ideal for homes without existing ductwork, these systems feature individual units in a room or zone, each connected to an outdoor compressor. This setup allows for independent temperature control in different areas, enhancing comfort and efficiency.
  5. Geothermal Heat Pump Systems: Despite higher installation costs, these systems are eco-friendly and cost-effective. Utilizing the temperature of the environment, they work by circulating water through underground pipes to heat and cool your home.
  6. Zoned Systems: These allow for detailed control of temperatures in different areas of the home using zone valves or dampers in the ductwork. This type of system is excellent for large homes or buildings where different rooms require different temperatures.

Each type of HVAC system offers unique advantages and could be suitable depending on your specific requirements. Consulting with a professional can help you determine the best system for your needs.

How Much Does an HVAC System Repair Cost?

Here are a few factors that can influence the price of an HVAC repair:

  • Parts: The cost of specific parts needed for the repair can affect the overall price. High-quality components may have a higher upfront cost but can offer better longevity and performance.
  • Complexity of Repair: More complex issues may require more time and advanced technical skills, which can increase the cost.
  • Type of Heating System: Different systems, such as split systems, ductless mini-splits, or geothermal systems, may have varying repair costs due to their unique components and installation requirements.

At Absolute Comfort, we prioritize transparent and fair pricing which means we never charge you for services you don’t need. Additionally, we provide financing options to help manage the cost of unexpected repairs, making it easier to maintain a comfortable and safe environment in your home.

I just had a unexpected discovery as I had the furnace prepped for winter. It was found to have several cracks, so it was condemned. :( I reached out and got a couple of quotes, and in the end I turned to Absolute Comfort. I did have a little issue with the original install, but Tony, and Ernesto showed up this morning and redid the hook up of my AC/Heat pump outside. I will give another thank you to Adam who I got the bid from, and helped me process the rebates online. This was something that was not planned, as it never is, but they were fast, courteous, and did a great job. I do not give 5 stars easily, as my last HVAC installer: Bill's Comfort system is a joke as they do not stand behind their work or products. I will gladly recommend Absolute Comfort to anyone needing to upgrade their HVAC system.

We found out when the nights started getting chilly, that our furnace didn't work. Tony, at Absolute Comfort came highly recommended and he didn't disappoint. He came right out the next day, troubleshooted the problem, made a few calls, found the part we needed somewhat close by, and installed it. All in less than 24 hours He was very personable, trustworthy, knowledgeable, did great work, and even put up with, and was so nice to, my inquisitive doggies, who had to be in the middle of the action! I'm so pleased he lived up to my expectations. I highly recommend Absolute Comfort!

From the beginning this company showed genuine concern about us as customers. They were polite, cared and listened to our needs. We ended up needing a new furnace and they immediately got a salesman here that day to talk me through every aspect and to help with financing. The owner and I chatted as well to assist with a few things. The furnace is beautiful and everything looks great. I highly recommend this company for your HVAC needs.

Absolute Comfort is an amazing company!! It's so hard to find a good, reliable and honest company these days. You will absolutely get that with these guys. They pay attention to details and go above and beyond. Things other companies would consider extras are included with these guys. They make sure you understand the equipment they installed before they go and make sure you know you can call them anytime with questions or concerns. We received flowers from them for using their services, I mean come on, that's just absolutely amazing! You will not regret going with this company!

We have just had our second heating unit installed by Absolute Comfort. (Yes, we have a rather large home.) First off, let me tell you that I am a very picky individual and expect a lot for my hard earned dollar. I understand that all transactions usually have a good and a bad side, but I try to get the best. With that in mind, here is the good: From the time of the bid to the final installation, we were treated fairly and with great respect. Jon, our installer, did an exceptional job very quickly and gave us a thorough walk-through of the new system. And now, the bad: Hmmm... Nothing. Zip. Nada. Seriously, I got nothin' here. We could be no happier than we are with the quality of service, timeliness, pricing, and treatment of our needs by this outstanding company. If you have any shadow of a doubt on who to contact for your HVAC needs, please don't hesitate to call Absolute Comfort Heating & Air Conditioning. They are impressive. Hey, tell 'em Tom sent you!

Brycen performed an inspection on my furnace to make sure it was in good working order for winter. He called ahead to let me know when he was going to arrive. He was courteous and friendly. Cheerfully answering my questions. He was efficient in the inspection and thorough in letting me know the results. I am glad I had the service done.
